MAJOR DEFENSE AXIS
The Avenue de Neuilly links Paris to La Défense, extending the historic thoroughfare designed by Le Nôtre. The burying of traffic in the center of Neuilly has freed up a large central esplanade, allowing the town center to be reunited once again.
The concept proposed and implemented sought to preserve the mark of the major axis originating in the Jardins du Louvre, while at the same time creating a new garden on the scale of the city. On the scale of the major axis, a large water garden is created, combining the effects of the mirror canal, the large fountain and the water buffet. For the city as a whole, it’s a city garden that erases the old urban freeway and facilitates pedestrian links by integrating a new metro/bus interchange.
