A61 – THE TWO SEAS FREEWAY
The “Autoroute des deux mers” is in a belvedere position in relation to the territory it crosses, and plays a full part in the discovery of the successive landscapes.
The aim of the first phase is to clearly identify the landscapes through which the motorway passes, noting their main features in terms of relief, vegetation, hydrology and urbanization, and then to identify the particular and dominant visible points along the motorway route, both near and far.
The aim is then to understand and characterize the relationship between the freeway and the landscape, and its current position in terms of earthworks and planting, in order to establish an aesthetic and technical reference framework that will provide guidelines for the future widening, which will enable us to rethink the staging of these landscapes through the treatment of the approaches to the A61.
The operative event: widening of the A66/A9 section to 2×3 lanes
Tasks:
- Territorial and landscape diagnosis
- Establishment of an aesthetic and technical reference system providing guidelines for the widening project
- Overall recommendations for integration
- Landscape integration of hydraulic structures
- Recommendations for insertion near the Canal du Midi and the medieval city of Carcassonne (UNESCO)
