EHPAD d’AUXERRE
The Maison de Retraite Départementale de l’Yonne has been developing for many years on the site of the former hospice. Through successive construction projects, it has colonized both sides of the valley, adapting the existing buildings to keep them fit for purpose. This is a tradition inherited from Auxerre in the Middle Ages, which had more hospital establishments than any other town.
The project arose from the need to upgrade the existing facilities and to meet changing needs as effectively as possible. The new building is part of an overall project to accommodate residents from both the Panier Vert and Champlys sites, enabling the buildings to be brought up to standard.
But beyond a simple “drawer operation”, the aim is to create a living environment that is particularly suited to the most dependent elderly. This means a high level of functionality for the provision of care, and bright, pleasant living spaces that are open to the outside world and encourage a zest for life.
