NOUVELLE ROUTE DU LITTORAL – LA REUNION

The affirmation of the Nouvelle Route du Littoral as a truly “maritime” project calls for a respectful attitude towards the natural elements that have shaped the cliffs for centuries. The dike and embankment sections provide an opportunity to rethink the environment of the ocean shore.

The New Coastal Road will take on real symbolic value if its functional role is complemented by environmental and social responses.

Environmental responses include geometrical and functional choices that respect marine ecosystems, as well as ocean shoreline development to ensure real porosity and biological exchange between terrestrial and marine environments.

The social answers, which should enable the population to regain possession of the coastline, are to be found at the points where the structure connects to the existing fabric, i.e. the Saint-Denis interchange, the Grande Chaloupe service road and the La Possession interchange. The proposed developments are designed to transform them into places where people can pass through to the shore and discover the ocean.
