DUJIANGYAN – URBAN PLANNING FOR THE NEW BINJIANGXINQU DISTRICT

The City of Dujiangyan has launched an international competition to redevelop the BINJIANGXINQU district on a regional scale.

The project is divided into 4 geographical sections, which will become new districts, designed around the relationship between man and water, creating the future relationship between the MINJIAN River and the city:

SHARING THE HARMONY OF WATER AND NATURE: the project is developed along a large Ecological Park;
LIVING INTENSELY WITH WATER: a new district organized around water sports;
WATER SOURCE OF WELL-BEING: a new district enlivened by water-based leisure activities and thermal baths;
INVENTING THE WATER OF THE FUTURE: a large technology park on water, the environment and new technologies.

The new BINJIANGXINQU district will be a vast eco-neighborhood, federated by the development of the MINJIAN river and its banks. Thanks to this, the city will be a sustainable tourist destination.

It will be irrigated by 5 urban axes, according to the 4 bridges and the underpass that crosses the river.

Each urban axis will be home to a themed economic and tourist activity, and all 5 themes are related to water:

These 5 axes are not only functional, they become symbolic as they link the city, the river and the mountains that serve as the city’s backdrop, in the form of great perspectives structuring the new district.

The project is therefore designed to establish not only geographical and thematic relationships between the river and the city, but also between the city and its wider landscape.

In this way, DUJIANGYAN will return to the course of its history, which began with the creation of the ingenious hydraulic system that transformed the Chengdu Plain into a land of plenty.
