S.L.N DONIAMBO

The Doniambo Nickel plant, a special area at the entrance to Nouméa, is due to be dismantled in 2050. The redevelopment of this area and its future are the focus of this competition.

In designing this project, the team set out to magnify the site’s living, human and technical history, from SLN’s heritage to its completion.

The territorial scale of this landscape goes well beyond the issue of insertion development, and will gradually take shape over the next 30 years. It calls for a real strategy in terms of both industrial site conversion themes and operating methods. Doniambo is also an urban complex that needs to be reconciled with the Nouméa conurbation by redefining not only its visual boundaries and access to the city, but also its relationship with the water that surrounds the site over most of its perimeter.
