THE A.20 FREEWAY
Linking Brive-la-Gaillarde to the north, Souillac on the Dordogne, Cahors on the Lot and Montauban to the south, the A20 freeway crosses the complex relief of the Causses, resulting in cuttings and embankments sometimes exceeding 50m.
Signes won the international competition for its special treatment of embankment modelling and sculpture, combined with planting that forms ‘staples’. These create a resonance between the infrastructure and the landscapes through which it passes.
In November 2002, Signes was awarded the Ruban d’Or by the French Ministry of Public Works for its earthworks and landscaping on the A20 motorway.
